AFS attended a Mountsorrel home on a Saturday evening after a wet patch appeared by the upstairs bathroom doorway, with no obvious source visible around the loft, airing cupboard or shower.
What we found
Water was escaping from the concealed toilet cistern connection when the toilet was flushed. It tracked beneath the bathroom flooring and appeared at the landing carpet, making the visible wet patch some distance from the actual fault. The flush-cone seal had perished and the leak needed immediate isolation to prevent further damage.
What AFS did
After reviewing photographs and a short video, AFS attended within half an hour, traced the hidden leak and isolated the toilet. The customer chose a planned replacement rather than higher-cost late-night work. Measurements were taken that evening, a quotation followed the next day and a modern comfort-height toilet and cistern were installed the following Wednesday while retaining the existing vanity unit.
Useful guidance
A wet patch outside a bathroom can be caused by water tracking beneath flooring rather than a leak directly above it. Stop using the affected fitting, isolate its supply if it is safe to do so and send clear photographs or video when contacting a plumber; this can make diagnosis and attendance more efficient.
