Rat-damaged toilet pan connector repaired in Hinckley

This recently fitted flexible toilet pan connector in Hinckley had been chewed through by a rat, creating a serious leak risk after only one week of use.

Flexible toilet pan connector damaged by a rat at a Hinckley property

What we found

The plumbing fault

The flexible pan connector had visible rodent damage. Ground-floor toilets in bungalows and flats can be more accessible through drainage routes, although every property and drainage system is different.

What AFS did

Diagnosis and repair

AFS removed the damaged connector, fitted a new pan connector and installed a McAlpine ARB-1 anti-cross-flow and rodent barrier behind the toilet to help prevent rodents travelling through the soil-pipe connection.

Useful guidance

What to watch for

Unexplained marks, odours or leakage behind a toilet should be inspected promptly. Repairing the visible damage and considering suitable protection at the soil-pipe connection can reduce the risk of recurrence.
