AFS attended an emergency call-out in Braunstone after water escaped from beneath a bath and came through the ceiling below. Because water can track away from its source, the bathroom installation needed a careful inspection rather than an assumption based only on the stain downstairs.
What we found
The bath appeared too small for the opening, with trim and silicone bridging the gap to the wall. That seal had failed. Perished sealing washers on the bath fittings created a second route for water to escape above and beneath the bath.
What AFS did
We traced the source, checked the bath seal and fittings, and explained the findings to the customer. The immediate investigation identified both leak paths and allowed us to set out the permanent remedial work required, including correcting the bath-to-wall installation.
Useful guidance
When water appears through a ceiling, stop using the room or fitting above and keep clear of affected electrics. Several small failures can contribute to the same leak, so the seal, waste and tap or shower fittings should all be checked before the area is closed up.
