What we found
The plumbing fault
The cistern was not shutting off correctly, so it kept refilling and wasting metered water. The existing cistern bolts and washers were also due for renewal while the toilet was dismantled for the repair.

07949 099363Genuine AFS job · Blaby, Leicestershire
A Blaby customer contacted AFS after receiving a high water bill and noticing that their toilet was continually passing water into the pan.

What we found
The cistern was not shutting off correctly, so it kept refilling and wasting metered water. The existing cistern bolts and washers were also due for renewal while the toilet was dismantled for the repair.
What AFS did
We isolated the water supply, replaced the faulty toilet fill valve and renewed the cistern bolts and sealing washers. The cistern was reassembled, the water level was adjusted and the toilet was repeatedly flushed and checked to confirm that the constant flow had stopped and the connections were watertight.
Useful guidance
A toilet can waste a surprising amount of water without leaving an obvious puddle. If water is continually trickling into the pan, the cistern keeps refilling or a water bill rises unexpectedly, arrange a repair promptly rather than leaving the fault to run.
