AFS attended an Enderby home for a same-day emergency after the toilet stopped clearing correctly and other bathroom waste water began backing up outside in the garden.
What we found
The blockage extended from the house towards the shared main drain. We checked the toilet connection first by removing the pan connector, then tested the bath and basin. Their waste water was also backing up in the outside drain, confirming that the obstruction was farther along the drainage route rather than being confined to the toilet.
What AFS did
We accessed the outside inspection chamber, worked through the blocked section and removed a substantial build-up of wet wipes and toilet tissue. The drainage route was cleared completely before the toilet, bath and basin were tested to confirm that waste water was flowing through to the shared main drain again.
Useful guidance
Wet wipes do not break down like ordinary toilet paper and can collect inside drain runs until toilets, baths and basins begin backing up. Put wipes in a bin rather than flushing them, and stop repeatedly flushing a toilet if water is rising or another fitting is also draining slowly.
