A leak in a Blaby kitchen initially appeared to be coming from the stop tap or the old lead mains pipe. Rather than assuming either needed replacing, AFS opened the cupboard backboard so the concealed connections could be inspected properly.
What we found
Once the pipework was visible, the actual source was traced to the Leadlock adaptor joining the lead incoming main to the copper pipework. Replacing the stop tap or disturbing the lead main before completing that investigation could have turned a localised fitting leak into a much larger and more expensive job.
What AFS did
We carefully tightened the lead-to-copper adaptor and wrapped the fitting in clean, dry tissue so even a very small amount of moisture would be visible. The repair was then left overnight. We returned the following day before invoicing or refitting the kitchen backboard, checked that the tissue remained dry and only reassembled the cupboard after confirming the leak had stopped.
Useful guidance
Water around a stop tap does not always mean the stop tap itself has failed. Nearby adaptors and concealed joints can allow water to track along the pipework, so identifying the exact source before replacing components can avoid unnecessary work and cost.
