Radiator repaired after unsafe wall fixing in Leicester city centre

A customer contacted AFS after a radiator came away from the wall at a property in Leicester city centre.

Heating feed-and-expansion tank inspected during a Leicester radiator repair

What we found

The plumbing fault

The radiator had not been secured with suitable fixings, placing strain on the brackets and connected pipework. While the system was drained, we also found a heavy sludge build-up in the heating feed-and-expansion tank.

What AFS did

Diagnosis and repair

We drained the system, removed the radiator, cut back the damaged pipework, fitted secure wall fixings, rehung and repiped the radiator, then cleaned the feed-and-expansion tank before refilling, venting and leak-testing the system.

Useful guidance

What to watch for

A loose radiator can damage connected pipework and release water. If a radiator moves, pulls away from the wall or begins to leak, stop putting pressure on it and arrange an inspection promptly.
